About Gutsies
Is Gutsies 100% gluten-free?
Yes, completely. Every product in our stores, every item baked in our kitchen, is gluten-free. We never handle gluten. No cross-contamination risk, no label reading required.
Is Gutsies safe for people with celiac disease?
Yes. Gutsies was founded because of Celiac disease, our daughter Maya was diagnosed with this disease, and we couldn't find a true one-stop gluten-free shop in Ottawa. Everything here is made for people who can't afford mistakes.
Are you a bakery or a grocery store?
Both. Gutsies is a one-stop gluten-free shop, a full fresh bakery and a full grocery store under one roof. You'll find everything from fresh-baked croissants to frozen meals to pantry staples, all gluten-free.
Do you have a coffee bar?
Not at this time. We focus on gluten-free food, baked goods, grocery, and prepared meals.

What do you sell?
Fresh-baked pastries, breads, croissants, chocolatines, muffins, eclairs, Nanaimo bars, cupcakes, donuts, scones, brownies, sourdough and regular bread, frozen meals, soups, Chinese food, stuffed pasta, pizza dough, tourtière, vol-au-vent, pierogies, and a full grocery section with pastas, flours, sauces, snacks, chocolate and more. Much of it you won't find anywhere else in Ottawa.
Do your croissants and chocolatines contain dairy?
No. Our croissants and chocolatines are both gluten-free and dairy-free. Everyone can enjoy them.
Do you have vegan options?
We have limited vegan options. Our mille-feuille (from l'Artisan sans gluten) is vegan. We also carry Susie Gluten Free frozen cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla are vegan), the Quesava line, and some Riz items. Our focus is gluten-free first, but we do our best to offer options.
Do you sell gluten-free pierogies?
Yes! We carry pierogies from Riz/The Bread Essentials (potato cheese, potato cheese and bacon) at both locations.
Do you carry vol-au-vent (gluten-free)?
Yes, you'll find them in our freezers.
Do you have gluten-free lasagna or frozen pasta meals?
Yes, we carry a delicious frozen lasagna made with all grass-fed Canadian beef. It comes in gluten free and also gluten-free/dairy free. It offers 3-4 servings. We also have other frozen meal options in store.
Do you have gluten-free tourtière?
We carry an excellent gluten-free tourtière. For lactose-free options, please ask in store as availability may vary.
Do you carry products from Annie's Seafood (Stratford)?
Yes, we carry Annie's onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Availability may vary, contact us or check in store.
Do you carry products from Riz Gluten Free (Toronto)?
Yes, we carry have a wide variety of their products: Crispy beef, dumplings gyoza, egg rools, ramen, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, tao chicken, wonton soup and more. Availability may vary, contact us or check in store.
When is bread available?
You can find our sliced breads and a wide selection of brands in our freezers at each location all year long. You can pickup hot warm regular and sourdough bread at our Orléans location during the weekend. Bread can be ordered in advance via our website.
Do you sell peanut-free cupcakes or cakes?
We are a facility that uses nuts, but none are used in our cupcakes. We do have one type of cookie that contains peanut butter. To put your mind at ease: Denis, our co-owner, has an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts, cashews, and pistachios and he eats our cupcakes regularly. We are extremely careful. One note: we offer to sprinkle Skor bits on our caramel chocolate cupcakes, as this topping contains almonds. It is always optional and only added when asked.
Do you make special seasonal cookies (Halloween, St. Patrick's, etc.)?
We make special cookies for Christmas and Valentine's Day only.
Do you have products that are gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free, and peanut-free?
All our breads (except the baguette which contains butter) are free from the allergens mentioned. For pastries, we have several options, but keep in mind that some pastries contain nuts. If the concern is peanuts specifically, we only use peanut butter in one type of cookie and one cake, made once a month in a space that is thoroughly cleaned afterward. All our dairy-free pastries come from our partner L'Artisan sans gluten in Montreal, no dairy,100% gluten-free, though they do use some nuts. Important note: any product containing chocolate will also contain soy lecithin. Our in-store staff can guide you through the ingredients of every product we carry.
Do you carry nut-free and dairy-free dessert options?
Our in-house baked goods contain dairy. However, we carry an excellent selection of dairy-free desserts from our partner L'Artisan sans gluten. They are not a nut-free facility, but their products do not contain peanuts or cashews. Our co-owner has an anaphylactic allergy to those plus pistachios and has never had an issue. Their dairy-free options include: eclairs, mille-feuille, lemon meringue tart, chocolate caramel tart, chocolate vanilla mousse, and apple turnovers. All are 100% gluten-free.
Custom Orders & Cakes
Do you make gluten-free cakes?
Yes! We offer 6" (in our freezers) and 8" (on pre-order) in a variety of flavours.
What cake flavours do you offer?
Our popular flavours include raspberry vanilla, chocolate espresso, chocolate caramel, blueberry or raspberry lemon, carrot cake, vanilla, and chocolate. We also offer special flavours during holidays (such as red velvet, gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding, coconut, tie dye lemon, chocolate raspberry, pumpkin).
How much notice do you need for a cake order?
We require a full week's notice for our signature 8" cake orders. For Kanata pickup, we ask for 10 days' notice. We do keep 6" cakes in our freezers for shorter-notice needs.
Do you make custom cakes that are both gluten-free and dairy-free?
We do not make custom cakes (with names, specific decorations, etc.). However, we are confident that you will find the cake of your choice among our selection. Our signature cakes are gluten-free and contain dairy products. We do not currently offer homemade dairy-free cakes. However, we have two cakes from the Susie Sans Gluten brand that are both gluten-free and dairy-free, available in our freezers.
Do you take custom orders for events and weddings?
Yes, for most items. We love being part of special occasions. We can do large orders of cupcakes, desserts, simple tiered wedding cakes and gender reveal cupcakes and cakes. Some custom requests may not always be possible, but we'll always explore options with you. Reach out and let's chat!
Do you require a deposit for cake orders?
Yes, payment is required 1 week before the pickup date for cakes and 2 weeks for large orders like wedding cakes.

Can I place a pre-order for pickup for things such as baguette, breads, chocolatines and muffins?
Yes, absolutely for our baked goods! We can prepare orders for pickup. For the best experience, we strongly recommend ordering our semi-baked frozen croissants and chocolatines instead of fully baked ones, they come in bags of 4 and you finish the baking at home following our instructions. Your guests get fresh, warm, flaky chocolatines straight from the oven. We'll also provide instructions for best next-day results with our baguettes. Payment can be made via our website or by phone.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes! Gift cards are available in $25, $50, and $100 denominations. You can purchase them in store or on our website at gutsies.ca. www.gutsies.ca.
Do you sell wholesale to cafes and restaurants?
Yes. We currently supply local Ottawa cafes with fresh gluten-free baked goods in bulk. If you're a cafe or food service business interested in wholesale, contact us to discuss.
